Limoux is an historic, partially walled town, where Blanquette de Limoux is produced. Blanquette is a sparkling white wine produced mainly from the chardonnay grape, and is made in the "methode champagnoise".

For the ladies, the town or "Ville" is of medium size with a good range of shops, including food shops, clothing and shoes, luxury household goods, and more including several Banks. There are 2 large super markets  conveniently situated at the edge of town, which you will pass on your way as you drive into the town centre.

The town centre,  Place de le Republique is a square at the heart of the town, where there are several Bars and restaurants with very reasonably priced menus ( try the local Magret of Duck ) There is even a Chinese restaurant nearby.  There is also a vegetarian restaurant

Internet Connection

Sorry, but there is no connection in the house, However The Grand Cafe on the Place de la Republique in Limoux has!!. This requires a RG45 ethernet cable, which is normally available on the premises. You just have to ask for the password.

The Grand cafe does not seem to have a regular closing time, but is open until very late every evening

Sports Facilities

For those who enjoy  walking there are several beautiful and interesting walks through  sloping vinyards  surrounding the village.

Being close to Aude river, there are  several watersports, canoeing and white water rafting facilities in the vicinity.

Swimming, suitable for adults and children, and much used by the local inhabitants, is available at two fresh water lakes, one at Carcassonne, Lake Cavayere, approx, 20 minutes and the other at the village of Puivert, 40 minutes, where the lake is set against a beautiful mountain backdrop. A snack and refreshment bar is conveniently situated close to the lake.

There is also a public swimming pool in Limoux.

The closest beach is at Narbonne Plage with miles of golden sand and the blue waters of the Mediterannean sea. The beaches are considered to be extremely safe. Life guards are on duty all day during the summer season.

The Aude valley is very green and picturesque,  as you will see from the house the rolling hills, and on clear days  stunning views of the Pyrenees mountains. All ideal countryside for walking and cycling

For winter visitors there is the ancient Carnavale de Limoux. This is a traditional event dating from medieval times, occurring every year and every weekend from January until March.

It takes the form of several town guilds (Fecos) dressed in colourful silk suits with "poirot masks" covering their faces. The Fecos gently dance around the town square accompanied by the towns band. At every watering hole on the square they pause for  refreshment . By the end of the evening the fecos are enjoying the event more than the spectators
